About Cate Taylor ~

Cate joined us at Preston Pottery in 2019 having moved to Bluffton so that she could pursue her passion of being a full time artist and Nana.

Cate has loved working in clay since she was a small child finding the process of molding, folding, pinching and smoothing clay relaxing and therapeutic. The creation of original one of a kind critters has grabbed her attention and over the last two years has built a home studio and a brand new kiln will be arriving in August.

She has enthusiastically found a place in the Low Country as a “critter creator” and excited to be a part of the Bluffton art community.

And there is always a smile.

Making art of any kind is an entirely reliable and effective means of getting out of my own way. It is not unlike immersion in the natural world. Right and wrong, good and evil, innocent and malicious... all those meddlesome dualities are left far behind. This is why I make pots, drawings and play my fiddle. I sing, too. Well, sort of. It has been said that art is a meeting place where there are no strangers. It is most certainly where I feel most like myself. That's a good thing. All are welcome. The only requirement for entry is the willingness to take the first step."

Scott Kinsey

A long time friend, musician, luthier and wood magician by trade, Scott has been adding his pinch pots to the mix in the studio. Scott and Brynne have been known to do what we call mash-um-ups, when he throws a pot and Brynne then alters it. We are lucky to have him here, we are lucky to know him.

Given the opportunity to make something, you should take it. Jacob gave me the opportunity at a time when I was in desperate need, and I took it.

While Jacob takes some personal time, I am here to open the door, hopefully be pleasant and of course make pots.

When visiting please don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them. If I am not in the shop, the door is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 until 3 and I am never really that far away.

I am Bevan Brynne Bowler, and I have been playing in the mud at Jacob’s since 2004. I also manage this website.
